Phillips AVENT launches 'Baby of the Year' Competition

Phillips AVENT, a company specialised the manufacture baby bottles, breast pumps, soothers and other baby feeding and health accessories for babies on Tuesday launched Baby of the Year Competition to commemorate its 30 th anniversary celebrations in Accra.

The competition which will run from September 23 to October 21, 2014 is expected to reward parents who patronize the Phillips AVENT brand.

To participate in the competition, parents are expected to send a recent photograph of their babies between the ages of 0-18 months to WhatsApp (0501 294 804), Facebook (Phillips AVENT) and or email ( [email protected] ).

Also parents can fill entry forms at the various Phillips AVENT outlets across the country including full name of the baby, place and date of birth and a description of the baby in 30 words indicating why the said baby should be selected as baby of the year.

A panel of judges will then select thirty babies out of the entries presented and put out for voting on the Phillips AVENT Facebook page from October 25 to November 8 2014.

Three final best photographs will be selected and parents as well as the babies will be rewarded with prices including a photo shoot and Phillips AVENT products.

Television Presenter Korkui Selormey was unveiled as brand ambassador for the competition.

She lauded Phillips AVENT for manufacturing products which have helped parents to better take care of their new born.

“I am very happy to be part of this celebration I have used their products with all my children and it is great that they are implementing a campaign like this in Ghana which engages with mums and includes them as part of this milestone celebration”.

Pediatrician at the Princess Marie Louis Hospital, Dr Maame Yaa Nyarko said the need for mothers to exclusively breastfeed their newborns within the first six months cannot be underestimated.

She advised mothers to ensure that no solid food, water or formula is given to their babies for at least six months.

This she says will help reduce child obesity and provide them with adequate and crucial nutrients at the right temperature, improve intelligence of children and protect them against diseases.

She encouraged women in various institutions to push for the establishment of breast feeding centres in their various organisations to allow them feed their children exclusively for the required six months.

Chief Executive Officer of Phillips AVENT Ghana Abdallah Kharmis said the company will continue to manufacture products that seek the welfare of mothers and babies across the world.
