World Cup commission faces BIG WEEK as GFA chief Nyantakyi and Kwesi Appiah appear
23.09.2014 LISTEN

Ghana's World Cup presidential inquiry enters its most exciting and most anticipated times from today as key officials of the Ghana FA including President Kwesi Nyantakyi, Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah and Stephen Appiah appearing to give evidence.

Other officials of the Ghana FA including vice president Fred Crentsil, Fred Pappoe and other leaders of the GFA as well as Stephen Appiah will be taking turns to appear in what is expected to give insider details of how the federation operates and how the Black Stars World Cup campaign was massively disrupted.

Despite threats from FIFA that intrusion into wider areas apart from parts where government funded activities are investigated, the GFA is desperate to appear to give its version of events with some questions to answer.

Ex-Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah will appear before the Presidential Commission of Inquiry into the Black Stars' 2014 World Cup campaign Thursday, September 25.

The 54-year-old is giving evidence alongside ex-Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah – one of his backroom staff at the global football festival.

The two former Ghana players have acknowledged receipt of letters requiring their attendance at the inquiry in the capital, Accra, after an abysmal World Cup campaign.

The Black Stars boycotted training sessions and revolted against officials over the payment of appearance fees. It was their worst-ever campaign in Ghana's World Cup history after finishing bottom of their group with a point. Two midfielders Kevin-Prince Boateng and Sulley Muntari were expelled from the Black Stars camp for assaulting officials.

Meanwhile, officials of the Ghana FA – Fred Pappoe, Fred Crentsil among others – will be giving evidence to the Presidential Commission of Inquiry Tuesday, September 23.

The three-man Commission has already taken evidence from the former minister of youth and sports Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah and other officials of the World Cup organising team in the West African country.
