The Police Headquarters was yesterday shut down in an unusual security measure to contain possible trouble as two New Patriotic Party (NPP) activists were invited for questioning.

Hajia Fati Amadu, a popular face at the NPP head-quarters, and Moses Abor, the Ayawaso Central Youth Organiser of the party, honoured an invitation sent to them through the Nima police and were quizzed over the incident at the NPP headquarters, where an aide to Paul Afoko, NPP National Chairman, a certain Atuluk, was said to have been assaulted.

Their interrogation, which was geared towards unravelling the instigators behind the alleged assault on Atuluk, spanned over three hours.

They both denied the allegation and were granted bail to come back on Wednesday.

CID Headquarters Shut Down                                                                                                As a measure to forestall any act of violence at the Headquarters of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the security facility was closed to the public from morning until 2:00pm as people with business to transact at the place were turned away by stern-looking police-men.

Armoured vehicles and weapon-wielding cops stood sentinel, in case of any eventuality.

The invitation was prompted by a petition filed by party chairman, Paul Afoko, who was not satisfied with the slow pace of handling the case at the Nima Police Station.

As at 10:00am yesterday, over 30 gun-wielding police officers had taken positions from the junction of the University of Development Studies (UDS) Accra main office, to the Fire Service headquarters.

Commuters and passengers who had gathered at the bus stop outside the CID office were asked to leave the spot.

According to Moses Abor, at the end of the ill-fated press conference by the party's General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong, and Paul Afoko—somewhere in August—a certain party activist called Atuluk was over-head insulting some of the party executives, whereupon a lady queried him verbally for the action.

'I left the scene only to be called by the Nima police about a report lodged to the Command that I knew a group of youth who assaulted the said Atuluk,' Moses said.

He further disclosed, 'I was called again by the Nima police about a petition lodged at the Police Headquarters regarding the matter and that I should report to the location tomorrow which I am going to do.'

Bail
After several hours, the two persons were granted bail and asked to return to the same venue next week Wednesday for further investigation.

According to the two NPP activists, they were repre-sented by a lawyer and that after the over three-hour interrogation, they were made to write their statements before the bail was granted.
