Andrew Okai-Koi To Unseat Ade Coker

It promises to be a contest not for the faint-heartened when the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) goes to congress later this year to choose its regional Chairmen and executives.

Reliable information available to this reporter indicate that current Greater Accra Chairman, Mr. Ade Coker, will have a run for his money this time round.

Names that have come up as possible contestants for the position of the party's Great Accra Chair is said to be causing a great discomfort to the incumbent, Mr Ade Coker, whose popularity is said to have waned within the party.

Some newly elected Greater Accra constituency executives, Members of Parliament, top NDC gurus and certain key figures at the presidency are pushing Andrew Nii Okaikoi for the chairmanship position.

“ Andrew's sacrifice in the region is unravelled. He has shown great dedication to the party's course, even at a time we think, he was badly treated during his campaign to become an MP,” one source said.

Mr. Andrew Okai-Koi is a native of Ga Mashie, precisely James Town. He speaks Ga, Krobo, Adaa, Twi, Fante, Hausa and other languages.

His language versatility is seen by many as very instrumental, especially for someone who the party wants to be a Chairman in Greater Accra, which has a diversify populace.

Though Mr. Andrew Okai-koi has not confirmed his desire to contest the Regional chairmanship of the NDC, there are strong indications that he may succumb to the will and wish of party elders.

If the signals and feelings within the party's grassroots are anything to go by, then current Greater Accra chairman, Mr. Ade Coker, has an uphill task at hand.

At the heels of the discontent within the rank and file of the NDC, concerning the Greater Accra Chairmanship position is a growing school of thought that Mr. Ade Coker is losing popularity within the grassroots. Allegations of corruption and inefficiency have characterized his reign.
