Police Grab Hardened Criminal

THE Brong-Ahafo Regional Police Command has successfully arrested three suspected armed robbers who attacked and robbed a sales officer of Thonket Limited, dealers in Nestle products in the region.

The suspected robbers, Musah Amadu, aka Obroni, a trader; Nurideen Karim, aka Obour, a butcher; Sherrif Adams, aka Alhaji Fresh (leader of the gang) and the fourth accomplice, one Ababa who is now at large, all residents of Abetifi Zongo, a suburb of Sunyani, on June 13, 2014, at about 7:30pm, hit the complainant on the head with a metal axe and took away a bag containing an amount of GH¢50,000.

The suspects reportedly laid ambush at the premises of the complainant and attacked him when he returned from Sampa with his driver.

According to the Brong-Ahafo Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Christopher Tawiah, the victim on arrival removed his bag containing the huge amount of money and other belongings from the container of the car. The suspects reportedly pounced on him, hitting him in the process with the metal object, and bolted with the bag which contained the money.

ASP Tawiah told DAILY GUIDE that the complainant, when he was resuscitated, reported the incident to the police and Musah Amadu and Nurideen Karim were subsequently arrested at their hideout upon a tip-off.

The PRO also indicated that on the same day of the incident, an amount of GH¢23,000 was later retrieved in the surrounding bushes by residents.

He said during investigations, Musah and Nurideen, who confessed that they committed the crime, mentioned Alhaji Fresh and Ababa as their accomplices.

Musah claimed that he had GH¢8,000 as his share of the booty, whiles Nurideen and Ababa had GH¢1,000 each, with Alhaji Fresh, their leader, taking the remaining unspecified amount.

ASP Tawiah said the complainant's bag was retrieved from Musah's room on July 22, whereupon he indicated that he had used his share of the booty for gambling in Kumasi. The police also retrieved only GH¢45 from Nurideen.

Alhaji Fresh was arrested on Thursday, September 11, at his hideout at Abetifi Zongo upon a tip-off.

All the three suspects have since been remanded into prison custody, whilst the police have intensified investigations to arrest the fourth suspect, Ababa.
