PDP Dares Amaechi On Local Govt. Council Elections

The Rivers State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP says the only reason why Gov Chibuike Amaechi has continued to postpone a formal conduct of Local Government Council elections in the State, preferring a Caretaker Committee is fear of defeat at the polls.

Reacting to the formal declaration by governor Amaechi that there will be no council elections until after the general elections next year, the PDP in a statement signed by Jerry Needam, Special Adviser on Media to the State Chairman, Prince Felix Obuah challenged Amaechi to put his popularity and political relevance to test by conducting the council polls.

It's not playing to the gallery, the PDP notes, but a matter of grassroots mobilization and acceptability to the people which the PDP represents.

The PDP however regrets that it's the local government councils and the people that are at a loss for not getting the leadership they deserve and by extension, are underdeveloped.

“We are on ground and ever prepared to engage Gov. Amaechi and his APC in a free and fair electoral contest any day and are sure of coasting home with landslide victory because we are genuine, caring, articulate and purposeful.

A trial will convince our opponents only if Amaechi can be courageous enough to do the right thing by calling for formal council elections.

A man who fears suffering is already suffering from what he fears and in this case, the PDP. This is the only way we can explain Amaechi's predicament,” the PDP declared.
