The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been under fire since they returned from their Tamale Conference where they elected their new National Executives for a four year term. Of the ten people who were elected, two are deemed to be the outsiders. They are the National Chairman and General Secretary.

Even though these two gentlemen have never lost the opportunity to state their neutrality, some people in the party have decided that they will not believe them and that whether they accept it or not the National Chairman and the General Secretary belong to a faction in the party other than where they stand.

So now even though these two gentlemen are at the apex of the party's leadership and have been granted enormous powers by the constitution to 'run the party and the national secretariat' with 'assistance' from their colleagues, what is emerging now is that they are being compelled to carry all their decisions including even the administrative ones to the committee for approval or otherwise.

As a result of this constraint not much has been done since April. Appointments have been stalled and many administrative actions have remained undone. The few decisions that Chairman or the General Secretary has taken were met with very strong resistance and sometimes accompanied by violence.

The decisions that readily come to mind are the replacement of the Director of Finance and Administration and the decision to send a Deputy Director of Communications on an eight week vacation. Since those decisions were taken, the party has known no rest. The Chairman and the General Secretary have received a barrage of insult and threats. The last volley of fire came from the legal and constitutional committee which decided on its own to delve into these administrative actions and have come out with a report in which they are asking the General Secretary to recall the two officers and also to apologize to them. Wow!!!!

So a General Secretary will be forced to reinstate his subordinates and apologize to them and yet remain their boss and earn their respect. Wow!!!!, Only in Professor Ocquaye's NPP. In all this, the two time Presidential Candidate holds the key. A lot of the actions people are taking in the party are all intended to please him and win favour from him.

A lot of these people believe that Nana Addo will become President in 2017 so they are all jostling for his attention and reward in the next government. At this point they do not care if they offend the party. As long as their actions will be interpreted to mean that they are on the side of Nana Addo then it is fine.

The easiest way to prove your loyalty to Nana Addo is to attack, insult and undermine Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyapong. Young men are doing it and oldmen too. What they are failing to see is that in the process, the party will suffer and the ambition of Nana Addo could be derailed. No individual can carry a party into an election. It is political parties that carry individuals into an election. So when you puncture the party, you are destroying the vessel that should carry your candidate to victory.

At the moment Nana Addo is so powerful in the NPP that if he should raise his voice against the 'nonsense' that is going on, peace will return to the party. Remember most of these people are doing these things to please him.

By the way what happened to the Alan faction in the NPP? Can a faction in a big party like the NPP be made up of only 59 people especially at the leadership level? The SCANDAL has always maintained that the so-called Alan faction is the creation of some smart but diabolical minds to put fear in Nana Addo and to keep him away from the party. All they want is to control him and the campaign.
