Simon Dornoo, GCB Bank MD
GCB Bank Limited, Ghana's leading commercial bank, on Friday introduced its new name and logo with great fireworks at a well-attended ceremony at the State House in Accra.

The new symbol, according to the bank, reflects the strength, accessibility and reliable banking partner, and projects a new image of a modern and progressive bank with a commitment to superior customer service through embracing technology and best practice.

Elliot Gordor, Chairman of the bank's Board of Directors, in a speech, said the bank planned to consolidate its position as the leading bank in the country by expanding its activities into the sub-region to capture the increased capital flow into the region.

GCB's re-branding, according to Mr Gordor, was inspired by independent research.

Players in the industry have indicated that the brand differentiation, coupled with brand management and superior customer service, would allow for a competitive advantage.

He said GCB's board was convinced that the brand required modernizing in line with the positive growth and improved all-round performance that the bank has achieved over the past four years.

The new logo marks the beginning of the next generation of GCB, which would be a dynamic force in the banking industry in Ghana.

Simon Dornoo, MD of GCB Bank, in a remark, said the new symbol was engineered by an extensive audit and that customers, employees and other stakeholders discussed the bank and what needed to be done.

The bank, Dornoo said, has doubled revenues from GHC200 million to GHC560 million, increased operating profits from GHC20 million to GHC320 million, and doubled deposits over the last four years.

He said this performance has moved the bank from a 20 th position on the banking league table to number one in terms of overall performance and returns on investment.

Mona Quartey, Deputy Minister of Finance, was the Guest of Honour for the occasion.

She said government expected GCB Bank to pay higher dividends.

She said government still considered GCB as strategic partner since it was the only bank that had branches in remote areas.

GCB Bank's new logo consist of an eagle in color pallets that combine beautifully to give expression to the new image of dynamism and freshness, as well as the enduring relevance of its Ghanaian and African heritage.
