The National Democratic Congress (NDC) yesterday opened nominations for aspirants to contest for the various executive positions at the Ashanti regional level of the party.

Nomination is expected to close by 5:00pm on Friday, September 19, 2014, and each aspirant would pay GH¢100 as fee for nomination form.

Positions to be contested for are Regional Chairperson, 1st Regional Vice-Chairperson, 2nd Regional Vice-Chairperson, Regional Secretary, Regional Organiser, Regional Youth Organiser, Regional Women's Organiser and Regional Propaganda Secretary.

Others are Regional Deputy Secretary, Regional Deputy Organiser, Regional Propaganda Secretary and other deputy executive positions.

Raymond Tandoh, Ashanti Regional Secretary, who is seeking for re-election, announced this at the party's regional secretariat office in Kumasi.

According to him, each of the candidates would be proposed by one person, seconded by two people, witnessed by two others and endorsed by one NDC member of good standing in each of the 47 constituencies across the region.

He intimated that no proposer or endorser shall propose or second more than one candidate for the same position, and added that completed nomination forms with two postcard-sized photographs as well as the curriculum vitae are expected to be submitted in triplicate to the regional secretariat on or before September 29, 2014 by 5:00pm.

Constituency Elections
Mr Tandoh said the party had completed elections in 43 constituencies so far and was left with four more to deal with, including Obuasi East and West Constituencies as well as the Kwadaso Constituency in Kumasi.

He explained that the problem with Obuasi East and West Constituencies was a dispute over the album for the elections, and gave the assurance that the party would address the issue.

He wished all the aspirants the best of luck and asked them to conduct a clean campaign devoid of mudslinging and name calling.

Aspirants
Meanwhile, six people had picked nomination forms to contest for various positions as of 12 noon on Monday at the NDC regional office at Amakom, a suburb of Kumasi.

They included Messrs Thomas Kwabena Braimah, Godwin Della, Peter Anarfi, Samed Akalilu, Kwaku Boahene and Brogya Genfi.

Thomas Kwaku Braimah, popularly known as T K Braimah, is hoping to unseat the incumbent Ashanti Regional Chairman, Yaw Obimpeh.

He is running for the chairmanship slot alongside two aspirants namely, Dominic Anoma and Frank Osei Mensah for the onslaught on Yaw Obimpeh.

According to him, the Ashanti Regional NDC needs a strategist and innovator who can re-energise the party's grassroots toward the 2016 general election.

In his view, many of the NDC foot soldiers had been demoralised and depressed by lack of support from the leadership in the region to do the business of the NDC at the polling station level and promised to bring the need change if voted to power.
