Hepatitis B: Screening Of 30 Boxers At Bukom
13.09.2014 LISTEN

The Theobald Hepatitis B Foundation and Hepatitis Coalition of Ghana on Friday, September 12, 2014 screened 30 boxers at Bukom.

The President of the Foundation and Coalition, Mr. Theobald Owusu-Ansah educated the boxers on the nature of the disease before the screening. He told the boxers that being infected with Hepatitis B was not a death sentence but the good news was that the disease was preventable and treatable.

He therefore urged them not to be afraid to go for the screening.

He made them aware of some of the preventive measures and advised them on the need to be vaccinated after testing negative because that was the only way they could protect themselves from the disease. All the 30 boxers tested negative.

On his part, the coach of the boxers, Mr. Fatai Issifu, thanked the Foundation and Coalition for the good work they were doing; educating and screening people at no cost.

He also appealed to the President of the Foundation and Coalition to extend this program to orphanages and prisons.

The program was partly sponsored by the Electricity Company of Ghana.
