MTN Ghana, the leading telecommunication operator in Ghana has launched a mobile money school fees paying service to enable parents pay school fees and transfer money to their wards while they are in school.

The mobile money school fees paying service will make it easy for subscribers to pay school fees for their wards across the country when schools reopen.

So far 30 schools and 3 tertiary institutions have enrolled onto the school fees platform for fast and convenient collection of fees

Sales and Distribution Executive of MTN, Eric Nsarkoh specking at the launch said the service will afford parents the opportunity to pay fees of their wards without being physically present in their schools and reduce the risks associated with travelling to pay fees.

According to him the main purpose of the introduction of the service is to improve efforts being made to make the economy a cashless one and also avoid the risk of carrying money along.

He said subscribers of the MTN Mobile Money system are already able to pay their Electricity, DSTV, GOtv bills and make transactions online.

He said the future of mobile money is bright in Ghana and very soon the idea of cashless society will be achieved.

He therefore, urged Ghanaians who are yet to register to the service to register to enjoy fast, convenient money transfer.

Director of IT Consortium Ebow Anamoah Mensah, describing how the service works, said schools registered on the service have unique pin numbers and identification number for each student that will allow for the money transfer.

He said notifications will be sent in the form of text messages to the mobile devices of the subscribers to confirm any transfer.

Accountant at the Edinaman Senior High School, Peter Essun said the contributions of the service has been enormous since it enhances proper documentation of accounts in the school

The launch of the service also saw the introduction of MTN's Back to School Promotion which will reward subscribers and schools who patronize the service.

With about 10,000 agents across the country, subscribers will be able to transfer money at any time of the day no matter their location.
