Some residents of Kasoa are very angry and have threatened to go to court to restrain the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Awutu Senya East Constituency, Adams Nuhu's decision to construct Market Stores on a piece of land belonging to Odupongkpehe M.A. Basic school.
According to the residents, Odupongkpehe M.A. Basic schools will collapse if the DCE is allowed to construct the market shop on the land because the school will no longer be a conducive place for academic work.
Already some parents have decided to move their wards from the school if nothing is done to stop the construction which is close to the school.
Meanwhile the DCE, Adams Nuhu declined any comment on the issue saying he will address the issue at the right time.
“I have decided not to talk to any Journalist or anybody on that concocted story. I will be commissioning a project on the school premises on the 16th of this month and anybody who is interested should come and listen to the whole truth”.
Some of the parents, this reporter spoke to, said the decision to build a market shop on the school land and close to a school is absurd and is not acceptable anywhere.
''It is very unfortunate that this decision is been taken. There is nowhere in the world where a market is built close to a school. The Pupil's need the right atmosphere to learn but with this construction of shops at the school academic work will be disrupted.”
“Concerned People in society must rise up against this public canker and defend the future of these poor children. We are calling on the Ghana Education Service, Ministry of Education and Civil society to intervene quickly to save the school”.
Construction works of the school is underway at the Odupongkpehe M.A. Basic School by Obolo Real Estate Developer and is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
Residents have accused the DCE of deliberately attempting to collapse Odupongkpehe M.A. Basic School to lure the Pupils to his private school which is said to be few meters away from the public school.
