Soldiers Storm NDC Election

Soldiers Storm NDC Election
08.09.2014 LISTEN

Two factions within the party at the constituency clashed as they insulted each other over which one of the two registers the factions possessed should be used to conduct the elections.

The situation looked frightening and so the party executives were compelled to call in the military/police team who were armed to the teeth, to ensure that nobody breached the law.

One of the factions was purportedly led by Alhassan Kusi, the incumbent NDC Constituency Chairman and the other allegedly headed by Justice Alpha, the 2012 parliamentary candidate for Kwadaso.

They could not reach a consensus with regards to which group's register should be used for the polls and so the Electoral Commission (EC) had no other option than to cancel the polls for peace to prevail.

When contacted, Francis Domeh, the incumbent NDC Kwadaso Constituency Organizer who is seeking re-election, confirmed that a joint military/police team rushed to the venue but stated that there was no fracas there.

He however, said the presence of the security personnel helped to ensure that nobody took the law into their own hands, announcing that the polls had been postponed to a yet-to-be-announced date.

Mr. Domeh said originally, the election was slated for August 30, this year, but the issue of two delegates' register compelled the regional executives to move the exercise to last Saturday.

According to him, before the election was postponed, both feuding groups agreed that the register from Chairman Alhassan Kusi was credible and so it should be used for the elections.

Mr. Domeh said on the election day, the other group surprisingly, revisited the delegates' register issue by complaining that Alhasah Kusi's was not credible and so they would not allow it to be used.

He said the disagreement nearly resulted in a free-for-all brawl between the two groups, thereby making it imperative for the regional executives to call in the joint military/police team to maintain law and order.
