06.09.2014 Press Statement

STATEMENT BY KNUST STUDENTS' PARLIAMENT HOUSE (KSPH) ON UTAG STRIKE - SEPTEMBER 4, 2014.

06.09.2014 LISTEN
By Ebenezer Nii Martey

Observing with keen interest the current state of the Educational sector in our country, with lots at stake regarding the current trend of issues, We as Honourable Members of KNUST Parliament House, express our utmost gratitude to Government and the decision taken by University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) to call off their five weeks strike.

We hope the Ministry of Education would keep its parts of the deal to totally avoid any such occurrence in future thereby building mutual trust between the two parties.

We hope that both parties would make an input into the document that will help create the National Research Fund that is likely to replace the Book and Research allowances. Like doctors seek the consent of patients when a major surgery is eminent, so does policy credibility require major stakeholders to engage in serious dialogue and deliberations for a mutual understanding.

We would like to use this blissful opportunity to call on government to do her best to resolve all the challenges facing the educational sector to avert any possible future strike action.

We further request the government to as a matter of great importance, come clear with statutes laying the educational structure for this country. This we believe would prevent the politicization of our education at all levels, provide a clear roadmap to educational success and improve tremendously student's performance especially in the WASSCE.

Thank You
Signed:
