SEP 5, 2014 LISTEN

A non-stop raging inferno is destroying properties in Assin-Fosu in the Central Region of Ghana with reports of fire fighters from the Ghana National Fire Service running out of water in attempts to deal with the situation.

Residents of the town are presently running helter skelter amid chants of weeping and mourning to raise alarms for indigenes to run for their dear lives.

Speaking to ModernGhana, an eye witness said the driver of a fuel tanker vehicle carrying fuel spilled the fuel and in the process burst into flames.

She said fire balls emerged into the skies and started tearing structures apart in the town.

Though there are no casualties recorded so far, there are fears that the situation could cause grave harm to lives if not drastically dealt with.

"The incident happened around 10:30 near the Assin Fosu Bridge getting into the market but we had no help until we called the fire service from the main Central office. But unfortunately, they have run out of water and it appears the fire is blazing intensively and we don't know what is going to happen next,'' one of the eye witnesses who gave her name as Adwoa Yankson told ModernGhana.

The residents are asking the powers that be to come to their aid to deal with the fire.
