Former Director of Danquah Institution, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko is predicting a landslide victory for flagbearer aspirant, Nana Akufo-Addo ahead of the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) flagbearership contest on October 18   2014.

According to him, the over 80 percent votes garnered by Akufo-Addo in the Super Delegates congress to prune down the number of aspirants from seven to five “is the biggest majority in any leadership contest in the NPP”.

This results Gabby Otchere-Darko maintained is enough to conclude that the NPP is united behind Nana Akufo-Addo.

He made the comment on Asempa FM's Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday whilst reacting to calls on the other aspirants to withdraw from the race.

Led by a member of the Ashanti Regional Council of elders, Akenten Appiah Menka, some party kinpins want the other aspirants to throw in the towel and allow Akufo-Addo to be acclaimed as flagbearer.

The 2012 presidential candidate garnered over 80 percent of the votes cast with his closest contender, Alan Kyerematen obtaining 59 representing a disappointing 7.98 percent. Member of Parliament for Mampong, Francis Addai Nimoh and MP for Asuogyaman, Kofi Osei Ameyaw got 22 votes.

Based on these results, many party members have concluded that Nana Akufo-Addo is the obvious choice of the party.

But Gabby Otchere-Darko vehemently disagreed; insisting that the other candidates must be allowed to contest.

In his view, the decision to bow out should rest on the hands of the three candidates and not from party members.

“It is a political decision so if they have done their calculation and feel they stand the chance let them go” he stressed.

Mr. Otchere-Darko also indicated that Akufo-Addo is not in favour of an acclamation.

“Nana believes in competition so don't pressure any candidate to step down; let there be a contest and I'm absolutely confident that the margin will surpass what he got on Sunday” he added.

Mr. Otchere-Darko was certain Akufo-Addo will give them a run for their money.

Gabby Otchere-Darko said Akufo-Addo has set a record and “he [Nana] will break his own record in the October 18 congress to crown him flagbearer. Story by Ghana/Adomonline.com/Adwoa Gyasiwaa
