Pastors meet to find solutions to moral decadence

Accra, Sept. 2, GNA - The Reverend Professor Seth Aryeetey, the Resident Pastor of Faith Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Accra, has expressed worry about the increasing level indiscipline and immorality among the youth despite the proliferation of churches.

He said levels of teenage pregnancy, armed robbery; drug abuse and disrespect for authority among today's generation were unacceptable.  

Rev. Prof Aryeetey was speaking at the opening of a five-day National Pastors' Conference in Accra, on Monday.

The conference, which was being organized by the Challenge Enterprises of Ghana is on the theme: 'Touching the Minds and the Hearts of the Next Generation - Our challenge"

About 500 pastors from churches across the country are attending the conference.

It is aimed at equipping the participants with the knowledge of the word of God and to give them adequate resources to minister to the youth.

Rev. Prof. Aryeetey, who is also a former board chairman of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, urged the churches to intensify their evangelism.

Mr Kofi Agamah, Managing Director of Challenge Enterprises of Ghana, said about 18 per cent of the children involved in social vices were victims of child labour.

'Children who are assets of God and our future leaders are always being subjected to child-abuse,' he said.

Abusing them in all forms did not augur well for the Ghanaian generation.

Mr Agamah said the conference would be replicated in the other regions in the country and expressed the hope that the organization would achieve its aims.
