SHOCKING: Martha Bissah's Mother 'Fights' Prof. Doodo over Prez. Mahama's Donation
02.09.2014 LISTEN

There was a misunderstanding yesterday at the Flag Staff House when the mother of Ghana's Golden Girl, Martha Bissah, stood her ground to demand the money the President donated to her daughter.

President John Dramani Mahama, by way of congratulating Ghana's first ever gold medalist Martha Bissah, gave her GH¢10,000 for her wonderful performance at a colorful yet brief ceremony held at the Flagstaff House .

He added, “I will ask the Olympic Committee to pay special attention to you and give you every opportunity to develop this talent for the interest of the nation”.

But soon after they left the premises, Prof. Francis Duodo allegedly took the money from the girl explaining that he was going to keep it in the account of the federation in order to sponsor her again in any other international event.

Bissah's mother, who got wind of what had happened, immediately rushed to Professor Duodo demanding the money as it was not given to the federation but was rather given to her daughter.

Professor Duodo tried to explain to the girl's mother, but she wouldn't budge as he stood toe-to-toe to 'fight' Prof. Doudu in a heated argument all in a bid to retrieve her daughter's due.

Confirming the story to sportscrusader.com, the mother of Martha Bissah, Madam Afuah Ampomah, said, though she was not happy with what the Professor did, she was content with the fact that, through him and the federation, her family has received the recognition they deserve.

“I wasn't happy with what he did yesterday, and I told him later when we were parting ways. But I thank him for what he has done for my daughter and my family through his federation. But I still stand by my word that the money the President gave was not for the Federation's account.”

Eventually, the Professor had to return the money to the girl and her family instantly, to avoid further embarrassment from Madam Afuah Ampomah.

“Yes he gave the money back to us and everything is fine”, Madam Afuah Ampomah added.

Martha, an 18 year old, is the first Ghanaian to win an Olympic gold medal after running a life time best and setting a new junior national record of 2:04.90, snatched victory in the 800m final at the Youth Olympics in Nanjing, China.
