Nana Supporters Have Turned NPP, Inward Looking—Sekou
02.09.2014 LISTEN

Controversial Sekou Nkrumah says Nana Akufo-Addo and his supporters within the NPP have turned the party into an inward looking party. His reason is that the substantive question to be asked is, is Nana Addo liked enough by non- NPP members and floating voters to vote for him in 2016?

Speaking on The XYZ Breakfast show on September 2, Dr. Sekou Nkrumah added that even though I think Nana Addo will win the October 18 Conference and I would back down if I was to be Alan Kyerematen, I'll rather urge the NPP family to critically address the issue of likability of Nana Addo outside the party. He's also asking the NPP to question the obsession in the party about Nana Addo.

“Nana Akufo Addo and his supporters within the NPP have turned the party into an inward looking party. Inward because Akufo-Addo wins the NPP primaries hands down and I think it's not even necessary for them to have the Conference in October. I mean it's clear that Nana Addo is the choice.

"If I was in Alan's shoes, I would withdraw just to face any further disgrace in effect, because I mean the numbers are now not encouraging at all and it's clear he's not representing the party unless Akufo-Addo steps down then maybe he has an opportunity, because honestly, I'm not happy with the numbers; the numbers he's making are very low.

“The point is Akufo-Addo is very popular within the party, but the point is, Appiah Menka made a mistake when he said Ghanaians voted because it was the NPP who voted. So the point is that they were NPP, that's the agenda, Akufo-Addo is who they want, but now the bigger picture when it comes to the general elections [in 2016], is Akufo-Addo the right candidate to lead the NPP?

"This factor I raised, they've been sweeping under the carpet plus some other factors. I mean this is somebody who run two times and lost two times. Of course the two parties are strong and they have their constituencies, but the point is that you need to attract the floating voters. So is Akufo-Addo somebody who attract the floating votes?” he asked.

The NPP currently, is preparing for the October 18 conference to elect a flagbearer to lead the party in the 2016 general elections and already Nana Addo has had a land slide victory (80.81% of total votes cast) in the Super delegates' congress.
