Ghana Students’ Association In Norway Gets New Executives

The Ghana Student's Association at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Trondheim, popularly known as NTNU-GH, with a population of over sixty members has sworn-in newly elected executives to run the affairs for the association for the next one academic year.

They are Michael Mawuli Ogbe (President), G. EdzordziAgbozo (Secretary) and Beatrice Owusua Nyampong (Treasurer).

The ceremony took place at the association's welcome night dubbed “Ghana Welcomes Moholt: Akwaaba Night, 2014”. The programwas designed to serve as a platform for intercultural socialization especially for students who are new in the city of Trondheim, Norway.

The program featured speeches, dances, poetry and music from different cultures and was held on Saturday August 30, 2014 at the Activity House at the Moholt Students' Village. The night witnessed a poetry performance by Emmanuel Kpeglah; a Ghanaian poet currently a resident in Trondheim, Norway andcultural dances from the Caribbean,India, Uganda, Ghana, Indonesia, Turkey, Romania, Serbia, Malaysia, China among others; eating and drinking.

In attendance were students from varied nationalities and some members of the Ghanaian community in the city.

Before conducting the swearing-in ceremony, Pastor John Ganaah, a Ghanaian and one of the pastors in charge of the Betel International Church in Trondheim who stepped in on behalf of the patron Professor John Osei-Tutu; a professor of History at NTNU, said he was convinced that the new leadership is capable of changing the face of the association, branding and marketing Ghana in Norway.

The outgoing president, Bernard Nii Akrashie Attoh, asked the new leadership to find ways of improving upon previous activities of the association. The new president, Michael Mawuli Ogbe asked members to be supportive and a little more dedicated to the course of the motherland even as they pay attention to their studies.

The program was preceded by a football match between the continuing students and the fresh students. The fresh students scored seven (7) goals as against six (6) by the continuing students, to win the game.

Mark Nartey, one of the continuing students remarked that the football match was “…an enthralling encounter and an epic clash held in the spirit of solidarity and Philadelphia [and extended] a helluva lot of congratulations to the first years cum their borrowed continuing and non-students. All said, the entire activity was thrilling and riveting.”

The ceremony was partly sponsored by the Activity House, Moholt.
