PDP Urges FGs Expedient Intervention In Ebola Situation In Rivers
29.08.2014 LISTEN

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Rivers State Chapter, expresses contentment on the prompt intervention in the avoidable Ebola virus outbreak in Rivers State by the Federal Government and also passionately appeals to the Federal authorities to re-double their interventionist efforts in the State.

The PDP says it is pained by the latest development which it strongly believes was preventable but occurred as a result of apparent negligence and ill-conceived political game play by the Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, even when there were enough warnings and preliminary efforts aimed at averting it by the federal authorities through the federal Ministry of Health.

While commending the President, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, who has through the Ministry of Health and the relevant Committee setup to tackle the spread of the virus in the country, the PDP appeals to him to ignore the nonchalant attitude and recklessness on the part of the Rivers State Government, and commit more resources in terms of funds and personnels into curtailing the virus which has already dislocated activities of indigenes of the State as well as residents of Port Harcourt, the State Capital.

From the look of things and from our knowledge of who Governor Amaechi is, if the Federal Government does not step up actions and demonstrate exceeding expediency and proactiveness in dealing with the current situation on the spread of Ebola in Rivers State, there would be severe tales of woes and anguish in the area.

Clearly, it is our understanding that the Governor is only interested in collecting the Federal Government disbursed funds on Ebola, only to misappropriate it on frivolities and political activities in pursuit of his selfish ambition.

The PDP also appeals to the relevant federal government authorities to ensure prompt utilization and non-diversion of the funds meant for the containment and treatment of suspects and victims of the disease in Rivers State.

It is our hope that if the funds are strictly monitored and utilized purposefully, residents of the State will have cause of relieve from the horror and pandemonium already created in the State.
