Chiefs Declare War On DCE

According to the chiefs, they would teach President Mahama a bitter lesson if he fails to heed their appeal.

The chiefs made the appeal at a press conference organised at Ajumako on Wednesday to register their displeasure at the behaviour of the DCE.

A speech read on behalf of the Paramount Chief of Ajumako, Okokodurfo Ogyeabo Nana Kwamena Hamma Ababio II, stated that the Traditional Council could no longer work with Mr Koomson because of his failure to discharge his duties effectively, and because of his involvement in a bribery scandal.

Okokodurfo Ababio expressed concern about the way the DCE openly told the chiefs at Omanhen's palace on January 17, 2014 that he bribed each of the assembly members with a sum of GH¢500 to confirm him as the DCE of the area, and that he would not take any advice from them.

'He later came to apologise to us about the bribery scandal and even presented some drinks to us, but we rejected the gesture even though he promised to allow the traditional council's representative he sacked from the district assembly back to represent the traditional council,' he added.

He underscored the need for the DCE to use the assembly's common fund judiciously for the betterment of the district, adding that they were unhappy about the inadequate developmental projects in the area.

'Some important roads serving communities such as Adu-Yaw road, Assasan Accra Feeder roads and Enyan Denkyira and Essaim roads to the hospital have been woefully neglected and remain unmotorable, resulting in the death of a girl while she was  being sent to the hospital,' he said.

The Paramount Chief disclosed that the three community toilets in the area had been full and unsafe for public use for the past six years. He therefore appealed to the assembly to construct more toilet facilities to reduce the high rate of cholera in the country.

Okokodurfo Ababio also urged the assembly to construct an ultra-modern assembly block for the district.

He further lambasted the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Mr Ato Forson, for not visiting the district since he was elected.

The Paramount Chief warned the MP to change his attitude or they would not give him the chance to address his people whenever he visits the area.
