The accident occurred, Tuesday morning, when a canoe on which at least 13 people were travelling capsized in the middle of the Daboya river due to a storm.

According to eyewitness Sawesi Sulemana who spoke to Joy News the accident occured at about 8am,Tuesday.

But due to the tireless efforts of the marine police and National Disaster Management Organization(NADMO) officials, nine people have been rescued as at Wednesday after it was initially reported six people went missing.

Joy News' Northern Regional correspondent  Martina Bugri, reports that the bodies of the retrieved persons are to be buried as soon as possible. A ritual is also expected to be performed at the banks of the river.
