UDS Suspends Reopening Indefinitely

Students of the University for Development Studies, UDS, may have to stay home a bit longer as the school has announced a suspension of its reopening for the 2014/2015 academic year.

According to a circular signed by the school's registrar, Dr. A. B. T Zakariah, the scheduled date for reopening; Friday, 29th August 2014 has been postponed indefinitely.

The circular did not state the reason for the suspension, however, it is believed that it is as a result of the ongoing strike action by the University Teachers Association (UTAG). The University Teachers Association of Ghana is the mother association of majority of Ghana's public University lecturers.

Earlier this month, the University of Cape Coast (UCC), University of Ghana (UG) and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) all indefinitely postponed their reopening over the ongoing strike action of its lecturers who are members of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG).

Members of UTAG have since July this year embarked on a strike action to demand their 2013/2014 Book and Research allowances owed them by government.

Authorities of the University for Development (UDS) have therefore advised students, staff and parents to hold themselves in readiness for the new reopening dates which may come at short notice.
