On My Humble Mind Today: Let Us Tell The Real Story Of Akufo Addo

(This was written and published first on 29th December 2013).

It is time we tell the real story of Akufo Addo. Having been in politics for so long the tendency had been to assume that he is popular and well known by Ghanaians. Yes! Akufo Addo is the most popular politician in Ghana today. Yes Akufo Addo is the most loved politician in the NPP today and yes Akufo Addo is also the most vilified political figure in Ghana.

Not all the electorates are well informed about the contributions Akufo Addo had made in the mid 70s, through the 80s and 90s. Most are bombarded with propaganda and "hate" stories about Akufo-Addo. I have been so amazed that he has endured all these years being in front line politics with all these numerous unfounded allegations thrown at him and still going strong.

Almost every unimaginable allegation have been leveled against him. He has tasted disloyalty at the most crucial moments of his political career, but has never succumbed to bitterness. As a students leader at the secondary level and even later at the university, I virtually memorized his speeches and read about him like my second bible.

He has devoted his entire adult life to a cause with his whole strength and soul and this makes him a thoroughly true leader. Like the elephant, no one individual can espouse Akufo Addo's contributions to the NPP and Ghana from only one angle.

Join us in bringing the real pedigree and noble activities of Akufo Addo to the lime light. Most people are so busy with the life challenges that they forget past events quickly.

Most people are also too young to appreciate the great works of Akufo Addo. Many electorates may even not have been born.

There is the need to tell Ghanaians especially the youth the great political figure Akufo Addo is made of.

Akufo Addo is not being idolized. He has stated that like Albert Einstein said "let every man be respected as an individual and no man idolized".

The Ghanaian who was born in 1992 and is today 21 years has already cast his first ballot in the 2012 election. Such people grew up through the periods when Akufo Addo's contributions has yielded the results of Democratic rule.

Let us tell the real story of Akufo Addo.

A man of integrity full of compassion. A real patriot and selfless politician, a man of peace and vision, a loyal member of our party through thick and thin. A pride of African democracy.

These and many more attributes aptly places Akufo Addo in his own category among equals. He can't abandon the party at this crucial time when his image and credentials are at its zenith.

At the time when a decade of propaganda attack on his person had been shattered by one singular speech he gave after the supreme court verdict on the election petition. We need Akufo Addo as the presidential candidate now than ever before. Let strike while the iron is hot.

But whilst we are at it let us also acknowledge that not every one may share our views and that some may decide to support other equally qualified candidates. That is the beauty of democracy. Freedom of choice. Let us give such persons the space and time to espouse their preferred candidate's credentials.

There should be no need to attack any one who holds divergent views. Let endeavor to protect the image of every potential leader of our party. Even under extreme provocations, let avoid the temptation of responding like for like.

Let us not be the first to throw a punch and even under attacks let us show respect, decorum and circumspection. If you want to protect the image of your father, you must first learn to protect the image of your "enemy's" father.

Continue to protect the image of your "enemy" until your "enemy" learns to protect the image of your father. In this way you would have won your objective without hurting yourself or your "enemy" who may but have been a brother or sister from another mother.

Thank you. Respectfully.
