Emergency Assistance to the Republic of Sierra Leone  in response to the Ebola virus disease outbreak

1. On August 22, the Government of Japan decided to provide emergency relief goods worth 29 million yen (tents, blankets, etc.) to the Republic of Sierra Leone, through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

1. The Ebola virus disease which was initially reported in the Republic of Guinea this March spread to the neighboring countries such as the Republic of Sierra Leone. As of August 18, 907 cases including suspected ones and 374 deaths were confirmed according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

2. In response to the request from the Government of the Republic of Sierra Leone, the Government of Japan has decided to provide emergency assistance from a humanitarian point of view as well as in light of friendly relations between the two countries.
