Europe Deutsche Welle: Featuring Stars From The Bundesliga
AUG 22, 2014 LISTEN

Together with the German Football League (DFL), Deutsche Welle (DW) has kicked off a special program just in time for the start of the Bundesliga season. DW will broadcast worldwide short statements made by selected international players for the Bundesliga.

"Deutsche Welle is your ticket to the Bundesliga – in 30 languages, worldwide," says Congolese midfielder Cedrick Makiadi of Werder Bremen. At home, Makiadi is a superstar – just like the other 30 players participating in the program, for example, Dante from Brazil, who plays for Bayern Munich, Vedad Ibisevic from Bosnia, who plays for VFB Stuttgart and Lukasz Piszczek from Poland, who plays for Borussia Dortmund. Their statements will be broadcast on television and published online and on DW's social media platforms.

Kick off! What Bundesliga footballers have to say
DW Director General Peter Limbourg says: "German football is held in high esteem among Deutsche Welle audiences and users. It promotes a positive image of Germany – and not only since the successful World Cup in Brazil. It is a great program that highlights just how international DW and the Bundesliga are."

Deutsche Welle will report weekly on Bundesliga games in the TV program "Kick off!." On the Internet, DW users will be able to place bets on Bundesliga games.

DW film: Mertesacker's goosebumps
DW recently created a big wave with the production of "Your Final – The World is Watching Football." "Have a look at it, I got goosebumps watching it," world champion Per Mertesacker advised his two million Facebook fans. For the film on the World Cup in Brazil, DW asked VJs in Japan, Senegal, Mexico and Russia, among others, to spend time with fans during the final.

Amateur filmmakers throughout the world were also called upon to send in fan clips. DW's sports department selected the best of over 50 amateur films.

The program was received particularly well in social media. German media outlets such as Focus, Sport1 and Handelsblatt, ZDF's Sportstudio and WDR-1 Live all promoted the film, as did the DFB. "It has it all. Goosebumps, joy. That's how TV is supposed to be;" "What a fantastic and lovely piece by Deutsche Welle. Worth watching it;" and "world-class documentary!" These are just a few things fans were saying about it on Twitter. The German TV station Phoenix also broadcast the film multiple times.
