HEALTH OFFICIALS at the Subriso Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) Compound, near Adrobaa in the Tano North District of the Brong-Ahafo Region, have resorted to the use of exercise books as improvised patients' folders due to lack of basic logistics at the facility.

The CHPS Compound, which serves over 500 people in the community and nearby villages, lacks basic facilities such as water, furniture, beds, shelves to store record and refrigerators to store vaccines. The lighting system is also very poor.

Officer in-charge of the facility, Francis Dakurah, told DAILY GUIDE that the exercise books were used as temporary folders to record information about patients and later transferred into actual folders at the Adrobaa Health Centre – which is about 10 kilometers away – at the end of every working day.

According to him, first-time clients are made to go to the Adrobaa Health Centre to register for their folders and NHIS cards before they are attended to at the CHPS Compound – since the centre is yet to be accredited by the National Health Insurance Authority.

This development came to light when the MP for the area, Freda Prempeh, officially handed over the renovated facility, costing GH¢15,000, to the District Directorate of the Ghana Health Service (GHS).

Mr. Dakurah, together with the opinion leaders of the community, appealed to the MP to help equip the centre with logistics to meet the GHS standard so as to meet the health needs of the people.

Madam Prempeh, who commended the staff for discharging their duties under extreme conditions, assured the people that she would continue to support the facility to make it a better health delivery centre.

The MP also commended the District Director of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Yakubu Bayayinah, for working hard to promote health in the district.

Dr. Bayayinah, who was full of appreciation for the MP's continuous support for health services in the district, noted that healthcare is very important because 'good health is a basic ingredient for development.'  He took time to educate the people on the Ebola disease.
