Press Statement TOPY Is Worried About Misuse Of Energies Of Youths In Ghana
AUG 21, 2014 LISTEN

Accra, August 20, 2014. - In recent times, series of violent verbal and physical attacks have characterised most internal activities of the NPP. The latest is the bloody clash that occured at their headquarters yesterday where organised youths were sent there to disrupt a purported press conference of the party. We, in the team of popular you condemn these activities, and call on politicians to direct the energies of our youths into positive viable ventures that can help in the development of our dear nation, Ghana.

We are tempted to believe that these acts of violence are being born of out some reckless pronouncements of some leaders of the NPP in the past. Notable among them are the infamous 'all die be die' philosophy and power 'at all cost' declaration propounded by Mr. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, the 2012 presidential candidate of the NPP and the unfortunate declaration of war by an honourable member of parliament, Kennedy Agyapong.

We think the political space of multi-party democracy provides for the use of civil measures and dialogue to resolve differences. The period of using the youths' energies for political thuggery is over. We would like to use this opportunity to admonish and appeal to the youth to stay away from politicians who use money to hoodwink them into acts of political vandalism and hooliganism.

Finally, we call on the Ghana Police Service to conduct investigation into these violent acts and bring the culprits to book, so as to maintain law and order in the country. Thank you.
