Hubris At Its Zenith

Hubris At Its Zenith
20.08.2014 LISTEN

For a man of his stature—a General Secretary of one of the two largest political parties in the country—caricatures should not have ruffled his feathers the way they did these past few weeks.

Declaring a cold war on DAILY GUIDE, Akosua's abode, as a result, sounds petty and appalling.

We would not cross swords with him as a newspaper, no matter how much he provokes us. We can only empathise with him as he tries to weather the storm of failure unsuccessfully. Poor fellow!

We would avoid casting insinuations as he did yesterday during the press conference. Suffice it to point out, however, that so much is in the air about a mischievous mission he is undertaking jointly with another person that we shudder to wonder why he would embark on such a politically suicidal adventure.

He was in full flight yesterday at the ill-fated press conference, spending some precious ten or so minutes on DAILY GUIDE. His hubris-laden remarks came a day or so after another effort in that direction from a man he shares similar feathers with.  The press conference was part of a grand scheme, jinxed and falling apart. Driven by mischief and fuelled by mendacity, it could only end the way it did: in futility and bruises.

Kwabena Agyepong appears to have learnt little about the newspaper landscape in the country. If he thinks DAILY GUIDE, having come this far in the newspaper industry, takes editorial direction from its Publisher, he must have lost his thinking cap.

Arrogance has an overwhelming feature. Like the spots on a leopard it cannot be replaced, no matter how much effort is put towards that end. Even after trying hard to reduce the indelible impression of hubris he has imprinted in the minds of many prior to the NPP elections which brought him to office, he has returned to his old ways with a vengeance.

For someone who popularised the hand sanitizer even before the Ebola disease became a WHO and a West African headache, Kwabena Agyepong has an image challenge to work on. We would soon find out whether he indeed applies the chemical to his hands after each handshake. If he does that now, he could hide behind Ebola as an excuse.

As for the newly-introduced security measures of filling forms before gaining access to the party's headquarters, Afoko said it is to track down arsonists. Party affairs in the hands of a duo with a mission can unfurl all manner of weird developments such as macho men clashing on the premises of the party's headquarters, with party GS taking cover in his office.

Kwabena Agyepong might consider organising another press conference to discuss DAILY GUIDE with a carton of sanitizers and hand gloves. How about that Kwabena?
