Accra, Aug 14 GNA - Forty selected members of the Ghana Progressive Hairdressers and Beauticians Association (GPHBA) in the Greater Accra Region have benefitted from a two-week intensive training workshop to upgrade their skills and knowledge.

The participants were taken through basic skills in cosmetology such as health and safety practices, waxing, client consultations and analysis, hair disorders and treatment and application of the right chemicals for optimal hair care.

The programme is sponsored by the Skills Development Fund (SDF) and the Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (COTVET), and facilitated by the Oyska Institute of Cosmetology.

Ms Bernice Bonsu Nkansah, Course Facilitator, said the aim of the event is to upgrade the skills of the participants to enable them to cope with the new trends in the beauty industry

Ms Nkansah said the trainees were assisted to have better understanding of chemical application alongside good customer care and book-keeping to meet international standard.

She advised the participants to always wear gloves when working for their safety, since most of the time some hairdressers and beauticians ignore the use of gloves.

Mrs Gladys Neney, President of GPHBA, said the training was part of the nationwide effort to support the members to maintain high professional standards in the industry.

She appealed to the Government to create a favourable economic environment and put in place interventions to make the private sector more vibrant.

Some of the participants, who spoke to the Ghana News Agency, thanked COTVET and SDF for supporting the training, adding that, they would put into practice the knowledge acquired to make the industry more relevant.
