The body of the late former Chairman of the National Development Planning Committee, has been laid to rest in Adansi Akrokerri, his hometown.

The burial of Paul Victor Obeng Saturday marked the end of a three-day state funeral for the statesman who is considered by many as a model politician across the political divide.

Reporting from the burial service at Akrokerri, Luv Fm's Prince Appiah said hundreds of Ghanaians were at the late statesman's family house to pay their last respect.

President John Mahama, former President Jerry Rawlings and wife Nana Konadu Agyemang-Rawlings and many dignitaries were also present to grace the occasion.

Ex-president John Kufuor and other leading statemen also paid their respect to the Mr Obeng on Friday when the body was laid in state. 

Catholic archbishop of Kumasi, Archbishop Gabriel Anokye, who said the requiem mass for the devout Catholic described PV Obeng as a strong christian who held strongly to the Catholic faith, adding he contributed immensely to the cause of humanity.

A state burial was held Friday at the fore court of the State House in Accra for PV Obeng.

The Ghanaian mechanical engineer, politician and chairman of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) council died on May 17 at the Lekma Hospital after he collapsed at a Filling Station on the Spintex Road.

He had suffered a cardiac arrest, according to reports.
