Assam To Observe Sadbhawana Divas

Guwahati, August 16: The Government of Assam, India will observe Sadbhawana Divas, the birth anniversary of Late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on August 20 to promote national integration and communal harmony amongst people of all religions and languages and regions.

The day will be marked by a solemn ceremony which will be held in front of Block-A of the Assam Secretariat.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi will administer the oath of Sadbhawana Divas to all officials and staff of Assam Secretariat.

Moreover, the fortnight beginning from August 20, 2014 to September 3, 2014 will be observed as Communal Harmony Fortnight.

As part of this, Sankardeva Kalakshetra will organize a cultural programme centrally with the main theme of communal harmony on August 20.

The pledge of Sadbhawana Divas will be administered in all districts and sub divisions.

Sports events will also be organized by the Department of Sports and Youth Welfare on August 26 throughout the districts.

On August 30, the Department of Health and Family Welfare will organize health camps at various places.

A cultural programme with communal harmony as the theme will be organized on September 2.

On September 3, the Department of Panchayat and Rural Development will organise distribution of economic assets.

Moreover, the district administrations have been asked to select and felicitate three prominent citizens working in the field of communal harmony.
