16.08.2014 LISTEN
By Alhaji Alhasan Abdulai

Imam Ibrahim Toure of the Ashongman Estates Mosque in Accra has given one of his best sermons that require the attention of all people high and low in society. Speaking during the Friday Islamic 'Juma' prayers of, August 15, Imam Toure exhorted everyone to heed good advice from people high and low to enhance their moral, academic and spiritual development and their fear of God.

While parents are required to offer advice to their children as part of routine method of training, children on the other hand can also advice their parents especially in morality and spiritual areas of life. The children must remember to be humble in this exercise.

“Whatever your status in society, as a lecturer, minister or president, you require the advice of some people to be able lead your people towards the right path.

He referred to Prophet Abraham as a good example of a man of God who advised his father to abandon idol worship in favor of God almighty. By this method he succeeded in getting his parents, family members and the whole community to abandon their ways to the way of God Almighty. The other good information given us in the Holy Quran is a father's advice to his son. It was Luqman, the 'wise man' who said to his son that 'oh my son! Establish regular prayers, and do what is just and forbid what is wrong'………. This advice was heeded to the glory of God.

Imam Toure who based his talk on sincere advice or what is called in Arabic 'An –Nassihah' said our beloved Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) informed us that the whole religion of Islam is full of advice.

Good advice has been mentioned in the Holy Quran twelve (12) times in seven different forms and in different situations.

Prophet Noah stayed preaching to his people for about 950 years. The people refused his advice and rebuked him, disdained him and accused him of being a liar in forging his teachings to them. That was an example of those who did not heed to advice.

Advice is to be offered by parents to their children as well as by children to their parents with the children doing so with humility.

One of the best examples is that of Prophet Abraham to his father Azar. Ibrahim gave a good advice to his father in a respectful manner and as narrated in the Holy Quran, the advice given by Prophet Ibrahim later changed the situation of the entire community of Abraham for the better.

Imam Toure prayed for Muslims and mankind to imitate our prophet Mohammed (pbuh) in his dealings with his people by listening and offering advice as he himself did.

Imam Toure advised Muslims to learn more about the prophet Mohammed on the way he handled different situations in his time. This way we shall all follow the right path in our endeavor to build a just society of God fearing people at all times.
