Some concerned old students of Techiman Senior High School (SHS) have petitioned the Director-General of Ghana Education Service (GES) to intervene in a matter that relates to the retirement of the headmaster of the school, John Karikari Apau and an alleged embezzlement of funds meant for the construction of an ICT complex.

In the petition, the concerned old students alleged that even though Mr Karikari has reached his retirement age, he has refused to vacate his post.

They attached his Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) card, which indicates that Mr. Karikari Apau was born on 11 th August 1954 to the petition.

The petition, which was signed by Kwabena Ameyaw Krompe, the convener, also appealed to the Director-General to set up a committee to investigate how proceeds of the 50 th Anniversary celebration of the school were used.

According to the petitioners, immediately Mr. Apau assumed office, he withdrew an amount of GH¢27,000.00 meant for the anniversary ICT complex and closed the account.

The petitioners noted that Mr. Apau had since failed to account for the said amount of money.

The petitioners noted that even though Mr. Apau withdrew the said amount, no work was done as far as the construction of ICT Complex is concerned.

The petitioners said they were concerned about the project funds because a chunk of the money came from the Techiman Old Students Association.

The headmaster has been boasting that nothing would come out of any investigation that would be conducted because his brother is the Deputy Minister of Education who doubles as the Member of Parliament (MP) of Techiman North, Mr Ameyaw Krompe told DAILY GUIDE in an exclusive interview.

According to Mr. Ameyaw Krompe, they would not sit aloof for the headmaster to perpetuate the wrongdoing.

He appealed to the Director-General of GES to, as a matter of urgency, intervene in the matter for the truth to come out or else they would organize a demonstration to express their grievances.

The petition was copied to the Regional Director of Education, the Municipal Director of Education, the Chairman, Board of Governors, the Techiman South MCE, the Omanhene of the Techiman Traditional Area and the Chairman of the Parents and Teachers Association (PTA).
