Police in Kumasi are frustrated about what they say is the Electoral Commission's failure to bring to their attention alleged acts to disrupt the ongoing registration exercise.

There have been reports of attempts by some groups believed to be aligned to the NDC and NPP to foment trouble in some parts of the Ashanti Region.

In the latest incident at a registration centre Amakom one person was reportedly stabbed in the eye just after registration officials closed for the day.

Commander, DCOP Kofi Boakye says despite widespread reports, no report has officially come to police for the necessary action.

He was addressing representatives of political parties at a tensed meeting on the spate of violence in connection with the exercise.

Even at the Regional Commander's office the leadership of the two leading parties still traded accusations and counter accusations.

Regional Chairman of NDC and NPP, Yaw Obimpeh, and Bernard Antwi Boasiako, respectively, took turns to address the meeting.

“I am appealing to my NPP Regional Chairman, he is causing all these things, he started at Asokore Mampong. If he stops the NDC will also stop because we cannot sit down for our people to be harmed”, Yaw Obimpeh Stated.

NPP chair asserted, “We also have a lot to do but we won't do it, but once they do less we will do more. But the intimidation in the Ashanti region is coming from his end, specifically is him. If they stop, then we will also stop.”

DCOP Kofi Boakye asked the political leaders to desist from any interference of the process, warned police will deal ruthlessly with offenders.

Meanwhile the regional director of the electoral commission has debunked all accusations.
