Breaking News: Amoateng Held Over Passport Fraud Charges
07.08.2014 LISTEN

A former Ghanaian legislator, Eric Amoateng, who just arrived in Ghana after serving a 10-year jail term in the United States for narcotics offences may have landed himself in trouble again.

Starr FM's Sammy Darko, who was among the thick crowd of Journalists and Security Officials who thronged the Kotoka International Airport and the Narcotics Control Board to witness Amoateng's touchdown and debriefing, respectively, said his investigations reveal that the former Nkoranza North MP will be handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service and the Police for further investigations concerning allegations of passport fraud.

Amoateng's Lawyers are currently with him at NACOB where he is being debriefed by drugs officials. He arrived in a Delta Airline flight Thursday afternoon.

According to officials at the Kotoka International Airport – Ghana's only international airport – Amoateng, who was arrested in the United States on December 11, 2005 for illegal possession of 136 pounds of heroin with a street value of about six million dollars, is being “interrogated” by Narcotics Control Board (NACOB) officials to keep track of his movement while in Ghana.

The state-owned Ghanaian Times earlier reported that a NACOB source had indicated that the procedure of filling the form was not peculiar to Amoateng alone, adding that it was a general guideline that every deportee on drug offences was supposed to follow.
