Profligacy Unlimited

Profligacy Unlimited

Only Ministers and Deputy Ministers under an NDC regime can afford the level of profligacy exhibited recently by a female government appointee in commemoration of her birthday.

While some government appointees are too scared to undertake such eye-catching social activities given the testy times the country is in, others such as our guest today can afford to be daring or even foolhardy.

Ms. Hannah Louisa Bisiw now Mrs. Kpormego made the front page yesterday for the negative reasons, as she has always done. She hosted a mouthwatering party worth thousands of Ghana Cedis—an amount which can abort a premature vacation for a cash-starved senior high school. She would have rather the public did not hear about this. Her colleagues in the ruling party could not keep the details of the bash to their chests, hence the leak.

As a newspaper we deemed the wealth-flaunting event worthy of our front page and proceeded to treat it as such. It generated a national conversation which was the goal of the publication. Juxtaposing the event with students in SHS proceeding on premature holidays, a national health insurance programme in tatters, and a cash-strapped Ghana heading for the IMF, is enough to trigger thoughts and even break hearts.

We did not expect anything below her playacting on the airwaves as she set out to rubbish our story with her trademark hubris. For those who read the story all they had to do was refer to her pre-political days to appreciate the level of change that has taken place in her life. The Agriculture Ministry is not one of the cash-starved ministries, we can bet.

The seductive dance she engaged in as she removed her shoes in a fit of near ecstasy could not have eluded the cameras.

When a deputy minister buys a $120,000 Toyota Landcruiser and gets it presented to her by her hussy, the public must be told so. This was exactly what we did and expectedly attracted her ire.

One of the drawbacks of holding political appointments is that untoward attitude and profligacy, especially in a country suffering the pangs of an ailing economy, by appointees is a fair subject for the media to maul on.

We have taken note of Hannah's exaggerated image about herself and proceed to deflate forthwith without remorse. Finding herself in the cozy office of a deputy minister with access to the profits from poultry product imports away from the tsetse fly-infested cattle kraal administering rinderpest vaccines on ruminants is worth celebrating.

In our industry there are personalities whose countenances are appealing and so boost sales. Hannah is not one of such personalities and so we find it outlandish the veterinary doctor-turned politician's face-saving remark that DAILY GUIDE is using her to augment sales.

We can't remember the last time she passed the stringent test for our front page for the positive reason.

The Cuban connection has really worked out well for Hannah: tying the nuptial knot with someone who also touts the Caribbean experience is a bizarre coincidence.

Can so much money be generated in a reggae craze Jamaica? Ghanaians seeking greener pastures might consider turning their attention to the Caribbean.

Hannah should allow sleeping dogs lie lest the dogs which died through her incompetence at the residence of former President Jerry John Rawlings are resurrected to haunt her.

She might never make the front page again if she decides to consider the dire state of the economy and conduct herself accordingly.
