LETTER TO THE PRESIDENT- IS THIS THE BETTER GHANA PROMISED US?
06.08.2014 LISTEN

During the run up to the 2012 General Elections, then candidate Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) promised Ghanaians heaven on earth and told us he cares for us but I ask "Is this the I care for you" we were promised? Definitely not because if this is the heaven promised us, then Mr. President,we dont need such promises.

Some of the promises included a 100% access for all children of school going age in compliance with the constitutional requirement of FCUBE; construction of 200 new Community Day Senior High Schools; doubling the number of CHPS compounds to about 3200; establishment of Job and Enterprise Centres in all 10 regions to help solve youth unemployment; ensuring an average GDP growth rate of at least 8% per annum; an overall budget deficit equivalent to 5% of GDP; refurbishment and modernization of the Western Line, just to mention a few.

Ghanaians have yearned and keep yearning for good governance and it is for this reason that, majority of the electorates saw it wise to elect you as Commander-in-chief of the country, but it looks like we are being taken for a ride under the Mahama/Amissah-Arthur administration.

Mr. President,I hope you know and are aware that good governance is critical for the development of our beloved nation and it is for this reason that I want you to reflect on the promises made to the good people of Ghana during 2012 General Elections. It is high time, your government moved away from the talking forum style of governance to pragmatism and to instruct some of your appointees to stop the fiddle-faddle talks as well as the prattling behaviors and find remedies to our current hardship facing the country.

No country, no matter how peaceful and stability it is, will survive when the fundamentals of the country is being challenged due to lack of proactiveness from leadership at the helm of affairs. And this fundamental I speak off here is the economy. It is the economy that derives the engine of growth of a nation but Mr. President, under your leadership we see nothing to hope for and yet you tell us to have hope.

What is the essence to hope when your administration has failed to arrest the depreciation of our local currency when you know that,as a country most of our consumed goods are imported? What is the significance of hope when under your watch our foreign reserves keep dwindling? What is the hope for when unemployment hasnt been reduced nor stabilized but has increased? What is the hope you preach for when electricity is a problem and as a result we are experiencing collapsing industries and loss of jobs?

These are the major concerns that as citizens we demand from your administration and if indeed, the country is at heart, then it is prudent to take away the positions of deputy ministers of various ministries and sectors by assigning these functions to Chief Directors so as to save us more revenues and also, the talking forum style of governance ought to end now.

Mr. President, we demand good governance which include citizenship participation, accountability, transparency, responsiveness to citizens demands, effectiveness and efficiency in performance of duties equitability of resources, inclusiveness of all revelant parties, fighting corruption and the upholding of rule of law.

With these virtues at the helm of affairs,Ghana is sure to develop and come out of this economic hardship. Mr. President,it is high time your administration became responsive than to sit down and watch till things get worse before u come to talk of hope.

Enough of rhetorics, promise of hopes. We need action now along with high sense of honesty than deceits and lies.
