A Parliamentary candidate aspirant for the Weija/Gbawe constituency on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2012 polls, Ms Oboubia Darko-Opoku has assured Muslim communities in the Constituency of her continuous commitment to support them, particularly the educational needs of every child devoid of political affiliation.

According to her, it would be an act of discrimination on the part of any leader to play politics with the education of children saying `` as leaders, we would have no explanation to give, if we allow politics to divide us and fail to offer the best education to our children, whom we represent in our respective positions'.

Ms Oboubia made the promise when she donated some items including bags of rice, maize, quantities of buta, dozens of mat, cartons of cooking oil, and soft drinks among others to Muslim communities in the constituency for the celebration of Eid-Ul- Fitr which ends the 30 days fast of Ramadan.

The beneficiary mosques include the Mallam Mosque, Weija/Oblogo Mosque, Gbawe Palace Mosque and the New-Weija SCC Central Mosque.

Ms Oboubia, who is the acting Deputy Executive Secretary at the Ghana Free Zones Board (GFZB) called for unity of purpose irrespective of one's political persuasion to develop the country.

'There is time for everything, politics and campaign periods are over and we cannot allow politics to divide us as a people' she said.

OB, as she is affectionately called, said she would not wait to become an MP, before she addresses the challenges that confront her Constituents, adding that as community leaders, 'there is the need for us to take off our political colours and lenses, so as to collectively to tackle developmental challenges affecting the area'.

She expressed worry about the fact that intelligent youth in Muslim communities could not have quality education and resort to social vices due to financial constrains.

The former MP hopeful advocated for measures to assist brilliant but needy children in Muslim communities and urged Muslim leaders to counsel the youth to guard against social vices.

She also challenged the youth to organize themselves into identifiable groups to attract the necessary support and assistance for their development.

Alhaji Saeed Abubakar Osman who received the items on behalf of the Muslim community at the Mallam Central Mosque expressed gratitude to Madam OB for the gesture.

He praised the exceptional and determined quality leadership of Ms Obouba which has attracted massive support throughout the community.

At the Weija Mosque and Gbawe Palace Mosque, the items were received by Issah Halidu, the Muslim Community Chairman and Alhaji Nii Adam Kwatei Qartey, the Dzaasetu of Kwetei family, in the presence of Chief Sheikh M. Jibril Sissy and Nii Anyaa.

Mallam Sheikh Eias Issah Adams received the donations made to the SCC- Central Mosque on behalf of the community.

In a related development Ms Oboubia has also sponsored the painting of the Mallam Central Mosque at an estimated cost of GH¢5, 000.00.
