Aspiring flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Stephen Asamoah Boateng says he is not perturbed by the massive endorsement of the party's 2012 presidential candidate,Nana Akufo-Addo by some Members of Parliament.

According to him, though it is their right to declare support for their preferred candidate but “I take solace in the fact that, the massive endorsement might not necessarily translate into votes”.

Asabee as he is popularly called made the comment on Asempa FM's Ekosii Sen programme Thursday.

Over 107 Members of Parliament and majority of party members have openly declared support for Nana Akufo-Addo.

The MPs said their decision is borne out of pressures from their constituents who they claim have threatened not to vote in the 2016 general elections if Akufo-Addo is not made flagbearer.

But Asamoah Boateng on Ekosii Sen was of the view that, the MPs should have exercised some discretion irrespective of pressure from their constituents.

Citing himself as an example, the former Mfantsiman West MP said “many MPs, Women Organizers and Constituency Chairman were ready to publicly declare support for me but I stopped them because I know it will be in violation of the guidelines for the elections”.

He urged Nana Akufo-Addo to be wary of the supposed support since “those who will hail you will be the same people who will say crucify him”

This notwithstanding, Asabee was confident of winning the flagbearership election because “I am working at the grassroots; where it matters most”.

Outlining his vision for the party as flagbearer, he said in the short-term “my vision is to bring stability and progress in NPP for victory 2016 and in the medium to long-term to ensure a country that works to deliver to best practices".

Asamoah Boateng said having dutifully served the NPP and Ghana as MP and a Cabinet Minister, “I'm more than ready to take the NPP to the promise land.
