Politics Woyome saga: AFAG join calls to prosecute 'conspirators'
JUL 31, 2014 LISTEN

The Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG) has joined call on government to prosecute people they call “conspirators” involve in the payment of  GH₵ 51.2 million judgment debt to embattled business man Alfred Agbesi Woyome.

According to the group, Betty Mould Iddrisu then Attorney General, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, then Finance Minister, 4.     Ebo-Barton Oduro, then Deputy Attorney General and others played active roles in the Woyomegate scandal hence should not be allowed to go scout free.

Ina statement issued in Accra Thursday, AFAG said Mr. Woyome could not have single handedly defrauded the state without the “support, failure or negligence of these government officials”.

Below is the full statement
WOYOME'S FRAUD; PROSECUTE CONSPIRATORS

The Supreme Court ruling on the 29th of July 2014 presided over by her Ladyship Theodore Georgina Wood vindicates AFAG in our long running battle to get Alfred Agbesi Woyome to book. AFAG also commends Mr. Marthin Amidu for his courage and steadfastness.

In matters of this nature, it is impossible for a lone outsider like Mr. Woyome to be able to act alone and succeed without 'support' and or failure and negligence on the part of public officers. It is therefore time for Woyome to name the collaborators and benefactors, and or the gang who helped him to defraud the nation the GHC58, 000,000.00 as he has often threatened to do.

Fellow Ghanaians, today, with the ruling of the Supreme Court,  it is now absolutely clear that the following persons have questions to answer;

1.     Betty Mould Iddrisu (then Minister for Education who was then the A-G and Minister for Justice),

2.     Dr. Kwabena Dufour (then Minister for Finance and Economic Planning),

3.     Henry Martey Newman (the then Chief of staff to the President)

4.     Ebo-Barton Oduro (the Deputy A-G) and
5.     Arthur Amissah (Then Governor of the Bank of Ghana )

These then state fed, and clothed public individually and collectively contravened SECTION 62(1)(b) of the Financial Administration Act 2003(Act 654). For the purposes of clarity we quote;

“Each officer or person acting in an office or employment connected with the collection, management or disbursement of public or trust moneys or with the control of Government stores who 'conspire with another to defraud the Government or makes an opportunity for another person to defraud the Government commits an offence, and is liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding 5000 penalty units or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 10 years or to both.”

The public officers involved, have not only contravened Act 654 but also by their actions and inactions, undermined the oath of Public office at the time of their service. In the case of Mr. Alfred Woyome, it is a case of fraud as the court has proven.

AFAG is hereby calling for the immediate arrest and prosecution of the above persons who helped Mr. Alfred Agbesi Woyome to defraud the nation. In the case of Ebo Barten Oduro, we call on the Privileges Committee of Parliament to relieve him of his position as the Deputy Speaker of Parliament.

AFAG furthermore urges the government to review any systemic failures, which might have allowed Mr. Agbesi Woyome and his alleged collaborators to game the system.
