Members of the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly last Wednesday boycotted the 2 nd Ordinary Meeting of the 4 th Session due to the failure of the assembly to execute some projects in the municipality.

The aggrieved members, who have about four months to end their term, said they would continue to boycott all meetings if the assembly fails to install street lights to illuminate some major streets in the municipality.

The meeting was to be used to submit executive report, discuss the executive report and a brief report by the Member of Parliament for Ashaiman (MP).

But the Assembly members boycotted the meeting to press home their demand for the provision of streetlights in all the 25 electoral Areas in Ashaiman.

DAILY GUIDE has gathered that the assembly managed to secure about 180 street lights, out of which 50 were procured by the MP for the Ashaiman and 130 provided by the Local Government.

According to reports, the street lights have been kept in the Assembly's storeroom.

Thomas A. Adongo, Assembly member for Obakatse Electoral Area, who supported the move, explained that the assembly had deceived them for a long time.

According to him, the neglect of the roads in Ashaiman and lack of street lights, among other projects, have created enmity between them and the electorate who are planning to embark on a demonstration.

He called on the assembly to execute the priority projects in Ashaiman to prevent any calamity.

Ibrahim Baidoo, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ashaiman and Daniel Akumah, Presiding Member of the assembly, encouraged the aggrieved members to rescind their decision to allow the assembly to address their grievances.
