District Chief Executive for Sene East in the Brong Ahafo Region, Hon. Francis Kofi Baah, has blamed the current economic woes including the depreciation of the cedi on the Election Petition case filed by the NPP to the supreme court after the 2012 General Elections.

He has also accused the NPP of masterminding series of demonstrations by the TUC and other labour organisations.

According to him, these demonstrations are ostensibly designed to make the President Mahama led administration 'unpopular'.

"The demonstrations are politically motivated but they (demonstrators) will surely fail", he said.

Hon. Kofi Baah explained, ''during the long protracted proceedings of the case, all businesses were transacted in the foreign currencies instead of the local currency, investors changed their cash into dollars with the fear of alarming instability which drastically had serious effects on the value of the Cedi against major foreign currencies.''

He continued, 'the obvious atmosphere and impression created out there at that time was that there will be unrest in the country after the court have passed its judgement and so potential investors did not want to invest and do business here'.

"Again, during the court proceedings, both the export and import sector became stable and full of in-activities and so how do you increase the value of your currency when you cut 'ties' with the global market" Hon. Baah quizzed.

The DCE is therefore not surprised the NPP will champion their agenda through demonstrations against what he termed as ''the mess they have created.''

He challenged the NPP to stop fuelling demonstrations and offer government alternative ideas if they believed they loved Ghana more than the President.

He said President Mahama has put in place sustained measures through the Bank of Ghana (BoG) and his economic advisors to prevent the free fall of the cedi against the major foreign currencies.
