Speculated Impeachment: Imo Speaker’s Aide Urges Critics, Journalists To Be Cautious In Their Reportage

By Emeka Ahaneku

Following the recent reported insinuations making the rounds that the Imo State House of Assembly is making plans to remove the State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, as well as its leadership, the Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Speaker, Mr. Chukwuemeka Ahaneku, has urged Journalists, as well as social critics in the state to be cautious in using such avenue to cast aspersion on the leadership and members of the state Assembly in the guise of reporting the rumored impeachment moves.

The Senior Special Assistant, in a statement yesterday, condemned attitude of some critics of the legislature in the State and journalists whom he said have personalized their report in a bid to ridicule the state legislature and its members for political gains and attributed it to the hand work of those whom he said were jealous of the success stories recorded by the Assembly within a short period of three years.

According to him, 'be it known that those writing unprintable stories on the newspapers and in the social media against the leadership and members of the state Assembly are only enemies of the state, who are jealous with the remarkable achievements recorded by the House in just three years. Against this backdrop, having failed in their usual macabre dance, they have now resorted to fabricating and insulting the members to cause tension and destabilize the House'.

Mr. Ahaneku, also emphasized that the House, through its bipartisan posture was not willing to rubbish its landmark achievements for the selfish interests, adding that the members were not in a hurry to forget their sacrifices aimed at making Imo State better.

He further wondered why the House, which is currently first in the South East and second in the country in terms of performance, would always be undermined by those he described as enemies of progress, maintaining that what is premium on the agenda of the Assembly in the coming lap of its tenure was to consolidate on its earlier achievements for the betterment of Imo people.

Continuing, the statement said, ' of more concern to the entire House and its leadership are ways to build on its earlier legacies and consolidate on them, as members are more mature, united and are ever conscious not to over-ride their personal sacrifices and public confidence which their respective constituencies have built on them', the statement stressed.

The Speaker's media aide further asserted that going by the high level of transparency, integrity and accountability with which the members were known for, 'no amount of fabricated publications laced with name-calling like fraudsters, contractors, as well as business men, which is meant to misrepresent and tarnish the image of the lawmakers, would change the masses perception about them, as the present Imo State House of Assembly was peculiar in all ramifications and cannot not be compared with most state Assemblies in the Country.

He however, called on media houses in the state to always be guided by the laid down ethics of their profession and shun partisan reportage, while urging the good people of the state to remain calm and continue with their legitimate businesses, as the House through their prayers and unalloyed support was eager to ensure Imo State continued getting better.
