Daring A Political Dwarf

Daring A Political Dwarf

Rather than being reprimanded for their pranks and obscenities by the appointing officer, they are often recognized and elevated to new heights. Such is the nature of governance under the incumbent dispensation.

Ghanaians woke up recently to the news about the Chief Executive Officer of the Free Zones Board, Kwadwo Twum Boafo, assaulting a driver—an  unacceptable conduct under any political arrangement worthy of deference.

It is instructive that the driver's only offence was that he dared prevent his boss from descending upon an elderly woman with whom he was embroiled in a brawl.

The driver, who suffered the brute reaction of his boss for his bravado when they got to his residence, reported this to the Police.

Regrettably, the case has been dismissed by the law enforcement agents and therefore unworthy of being brought before a court of law. Talk of subtle immunity and Kwadwo Twum Boafo presents an apt example—another smelly feature of the NDC government.

The law enforcement agents could not have done the contrary, apprehensive of the harassment of the likes of Twum Boafo who threaten them with dismissals and other punitive measures. That is how bad things have become in this country, besides a wobbling economy.

The driver, an employee of the Free Zones Board, a Ghanaian with equal rights as the CEO, must be wondering why in spite of the ample evidence about the ordeal he suffered at the hands of his boss, he failed to get justice.

Twum Boafo must have derided his driver for resorting to the law enforcement agents to seek redress knowing very well that he, like his colleagues in government, are covered by the mighty wings of the NDC.

We have learnt with excitement that Kwadwo Twum Boafo, emboldened by the expected 'no case' passed by the investigators and our reportage on the development so far, has threatened to sue us.

It is interesting how political dwarfs donning giants' apparels get carried away by the delusion of grandeur about themselves. Otherwise, how dare Kwadwo Twum Boafo issue such a threat in the media and think we would shiver.

We would not be cowed by threats from lightweights who achieved political dreams through mischief. It is our duty as a media house to help in shaping a better country through our reportage, irrespective of whose ox is gored.

Let him go to court and stop spewing threats on the airwaves, as that would not stop us from carrying out our duties to the Ghanaian public without fear or favour.

We take solace in the reality that the judiciary is the only place that has not been infested by the contagion which has sent the other arms of government to the brink of uselessness.
