A quantity of tennis rackets, balls, stringing equipment and brand new sports clothing have been donated to the La Constance Tennis Academy of Akropong Akuapem Ghana. The presentation was done by Kelly Gunterman, a tennis coach at the Solaris Tennis Club in New York and founder of Tennis without Borders Organization. The clothing items were donated by Loriet Sports Company.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Academy, Dr. Alex Aniapam said he was indeed grateful to Kelly for his commitment to the progress at La Constance Tennis Academy and for his continued support.
He said the Academy is making tremendous progress and that it has about 25 students. He said he was equally grateful to the Kwakwaduam Association Inc of New York (a Non-Profit Organization in New York) which is the main sponsor of the Academy.
Dr. Boafo, a Gynecologist at the Montefiore Medical Center and the Albert Einstein Medical College in New York and founder of the Academy added that he welcomed donations from other Organizations to make this innovative venture sustainable.
It will be recalled that the Tennis Academy was established in Akropong Akuapem in the Eastern Region of Ghana in February to introduce tennis at the village level and to facilitate the youth empowerment process in the town. The Academy has also introduced academic programs to help with the academic work of the kids.
