Gov't Committed To Small Scale Mining

The District Chief of Ellembele District in the Western Region, Mr. Daniel K. Eshun has reiterated that government is committed to ensure that Ghanaians take advantage of the small scale mining business rather than illegal ('galamsey') mining activities.

According to him, the government is ready to assist individuals or groups who desire to venture into the small scale mining business to acquire the needed documents that would enable them to operate in any part of the country.

Mr. Eshun was speaking when he officially inaugurated Akwamu Small Scale Mining Company Limited, an Nzema based firm at Nvuma in the Ellembele District last Friday.

He lauded authorities of Adamus Resources Limited for releasing part of its concession to indigenes of the area to legally acquire and operate in order to earn a descent living.

This, he mentioned would help to improve their standard of living, since it will create more job avenues for the youth and cautioned that the Assembly will deal with the company if it sought to engage children in its operations.

He further advised the company to adhere to the safety measures throughout its operations and ensure that its worker's welfare is equally and dispassionately taken care of.

'The Assembly will not hesitate to push for withdrawal of the company's licenses if it is found that children are engaged in its operations'.

On her part, the Chief Executive of Akwamu Small Scale Mining Company Limited, Mrs Gertrude Heman-Ackah in her speech disclosed that Akwamu Mines was established mainly to create job opportunities for the youth of the District and its environs.

She added that the company as part of its initial operations have so far engaged over five hundred youth and will continue to recruit more, stressing that Akwamu Mines is focused on improving the lives of the people of Nzemaland and the region at large.

Parents were tasked to invest into the education of their wards to enable them become useful to the society in future instead of spending their resources on activities that would not yield any improvement to their lives.

Mrs. Heman-Ackah further called on the Chiefs and people of the area to unite in order to fight for a common goal for Nzemaland. The move, she indicated will help to foster rapid development of the area.
