Efforts to inject new reforms and innovations into the artisanal and small scale industry in Ghana have received a major boost with the organization of an extra-ordinary summit on the ways to reform the mining sector.

The conference which was held on 7th July, 2014, was organized by the Mining Operation Manager of Modern Gold Refinery Ghana Limited, Mr. Henry B. Smith with other Executive partners from Ghana and sponsored by the representatives from USA in attendance.

The event also had the aim to unite the various groups and stakeholders in the Artisanal and Small Scale Mining sector which included Artisanal and Small Scale Mining Africa Network Ghana, United Small Scale Miners Association, and Ghana National Association for Small Scale Miners.

There were pre-conference discussions and field visits to major mining concessions beyond Kumasi, and its surrounding mining areas.

The Participants, mostly executives drawn from different small scale mining sectors, financial institutions board of advisors offering options, department representatives engaged in deliberations chaired by Dr. Lorinda Liang, Founder of Modern Gold Refinery Ghana.

The conference created the platform with some of the objectives ranging from provision of 'Equipment Financing' to relevant small scale mining operators under Specific 'Working Partnership' Agreements along with educational workshops, training programs; and the introduction of the most current technologies, environmental health issues, training courses covering any New Government Regulations, Policies. Most of these recommendations came from Dr. Liang who was sponsored by her USA team of Board of Advisors and Directors. Minutes were taken by the Executives, Representatives from the heads of the various mining associations.

''Participants must work together to ensure the success and be able to sustain the project'', Mr. Henry B. Smith stated in a remark.

The small scale miners also took the opportunity to ask critical questions about how they could best access support to go about their business activities.

Alternative options for small scale miners who had no collaterals but owned genuine mining concessions as well as how to get support were extensively deliberated upon.

In her official address, Chairman Dr. Lorinda Liang encouraged all the mining sectors to follow the laid down regulations, policies, stressing 'No Licenses, No Permits, No Mining'.

Illegal mining could bring dangers to the workers and causing environmental harms. All of us must stand for a healthy gold mining concept and follow principles.

These are some of the excerpts of Dr. Liang's address:

''On my journey over here in Ghana, since 2003 as a Global Entrepreneur, International Economic Development Executives, I went through very hard moments like armed robbery, embezzlement, vandalism, and accusations in Ghana, nevertheless, these experiences did not pull me down but I am truly here again to prove to let the industry feel my humanitarian practices with the establishment of a Gold refinery in Ghana.

On my part, I can say corporate management strategies were successful nevertheless, the human mind management for the companies that I invested, incorporated here in Ghana was the hardest in management; managing people who were selfish, until today, I still believe love and education of God's words would change a person.

I was a young adult as I started humanitarian projects in African countries and I believed the citizens in Ghana and other 53 African countries are able to sustain the Mother Nature's gifts from GOD to benefit the future generations. As I would always say SUCCESS does not happen overnight, if we do not try hard, it'll never happen, our future is in our own hands let's work hand-in-hand together to reach the dreams of our life.

As we are aware, we do not contend with the diversity of it, we are still a little bit better today than yesterday. As long as we are always better than yesterday, we are progressing from poor to middle class and so forth, we must try! Ghana is a politically active country like many Africa countries but majority people are just civilians not politicians where we must do our parts and allowing our management team 'Government Sectors', working together as one big company.

This is important for us to understand we can't be the point of friction in a small business industry, so we have opened up our platform for the equipment financing options as 'partnership'.'' Dr. Lorinda Liang acknowledged that Ghana never had Mortgage Financing until within some last few years and there are yet to be more interventions to address the housing deficit.

She also brought to light and proposed major financial generation reforms for the development of the industry:

''The present market is ready to allow us to focus our innovations in many areas, therefore, I personally want to share my visions for Ghana, Africa by opening up to expanding the total addressable equipment financing options and making sure they would work and abide by all of us, not one side gain but a revolving strategies for all protection and gain.

Ghana needs to respect foreign investors who are here to assist and to share their successful experiences. Most of the well-known peace-makers are known after their death but this time should be different. We will change for the better! It is not an option, but a must! Humanitarian's practices do not belong to the riches but the righteousness.

This time is 'you' -Ghana citizens who would speak high for your own name and raise your Ghana Flag High! We would not support illegal mining, would not support illegal trading, and would not support 419 listings, scandals. It is a mindset not to allow illegal actions to flow and transpired seamlessly and do not allow any integration. We must increase the employments; raise our own income that we worked for, education implementations, etc.

We should keep ourselves busy enough in the working environment, students should be kept busy enough in studying, from the positive changes in actions, we shall see the dramatic reduced crime rates and the unemployment rates.

She also shared with us few key points from the-House of Debt by Princeton economist Atif Mian and Chicago University finance Professor Amir Sufi : " is not hard to understand to Raise Wages is good for Business, and Why to raise wages is good for business to minimizing corruptions? How many people see through the clouds?

It was not financial institutions who help the folks during the financial crisis but the economically vulnerable households to whom they lent. Falling demand from these households was the root because the 2008 recession, and they have yet to recover ".What our economy needs is real wage growth, which is the real economy growth for all nations. USA was facing a Problematic Policy.

The US Keeps Educating International Students-But Not Retaining Them ". Therefore, ourselves we should not be repeating the same mistakes but retaining who we trained by keeping them. They are the assets of the companies; they are the future leaders for our future generations. 'It no longer matters if you are a good corporate citizen-now the No.1 priority around the globe is Employment JOBS are your only calling card today' says Immelt, General Electric Chairman.

Well, I can't speak for others, but it's been the goal for all our investment that $1 of $100 revenue to be donated to educational funds programs, NGO organizations, foundations, etc. It is still the objectives to multiple-multiplying to that effect with those of you are here today. ..I can lead the hundreds of you to lead thousands in the future. Do not ever use your ages to restrict your leadership, performances.

Leadership dynamic is the logical result of a difficult economic environment upheaval-and it's a wake-up call for zealots of the allegedly inevitable wave of globalization that has been prophesied in business schools and investment seminars for the past few decades: Despite a belief that we live in a more enlightened age of free trade, citizens are constantly reminded Promise definitely comes with a Cost. JESUS SAID "WISDOM IS PROVED RIGHTEOUS BY ITS WORKS".

Today, we are here to wake up ourselves to make the promises to reality. Last but not least, our new Ghanaian generations should be kept in Ghana; Modern Gold Refinery is not only of gold refinery but an overall Refinery (Refining) of the Gold Country!'
