President Mahama To Pray With Muslims In Kumasi

The president John Dramani Mahama will join Muslims in Kumasi to celebrate the Eid al fitr prayers and festival to mark the end of the month-long Ramadan fast. This will be a departure from the norm and therefore the first time the president will be carrying out this assignment outside Accra. Instead of addressing Muslims in Accra together with the National Chief Imam he will do so in Kumasi the Ashanti Regional Capital on Monday August 28.

This day has been declared a public holiday. Instead the president will be represented at the Independence Square in Accra by the Vice President Mr. Amissah Arthur who will also deliver a message on behalf of the president. Dr Mustapha Ahmed Minister of State at the presidency dropped the hint when he met with the National Chief Imam Sheikh Dr Usman Nuhu Sharubutu and groups of Muslims on behalf of the President at Fadama Accra.

In extending the presidents felicitations and the message of the president and sought the support and prayers of the National Chief Imam for the president's trip to Kumasi. The meeting was meant to hand over quantities of rice and sugar to Muslims through their groupings for the Ramadan fast and the festival.

The groupings include the Office Of National Chief Imam, the Federation of Muslim Councils of Ghana FMC, Ahlul Sunna Wal Jamma ASWAJ, Ghana Muslim Mission (GMM), Federation Of Muslim Women Association of Ghana (FOMWAG), Muslim Journalist Association , Islamic Foundation For Peace And Development (IFPAD) Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission, to mention but a few.

Dr Mustapha thanked the National Chief Imam and Muslims on behalf of the president for the warm reception accorded him and his delegation. He admitted that Ghana is going through hard times and said it is due to external economic difficulties affecting the whole world. He called on the national chief imam and Muslims in general to continue praying for the nation to be able to overcome its difficulties
